Project Information

  • Ore Deposit: Porphyry
  • Commodity: Copper
  • Research Themes: Copper, Regional Metallogeny
  • Location: northern Kazakhstan
  • Project Status: Active
  • Start Date: 2019

The Bozshakol porphyry copper deposit is located in the western part of the Paleozoic Altai orogen of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), which also hosts the Kounrad, Aktogay, and Oyu Tolgoi porphyry deposits. The geology and the magmatic and hydrothermal evolution of the Bozshakol porphyry system provides insights into the metallogeny of this wide and well-endowed belt. This project comprises the first comprehensive description of the deposit’s geology, and focuses on the temporal evolution of its magmatism, alteration, and mineralization. New geochronological data will be supported by detailed drill core investigations shed light on the longevity of the mineralizing porphyry system.
