SUMMARY:SC130: Porphyry Mapping Course - FIELD TRIP "SOLD OUT"
DESCRIPTION:Porphyry Mapping Course: Highland Valley Calc Alkalic and Coppe
r Mountain Alkalic Deposits \nJoin MDRU for a 6-day field trip short cour
se on June 3 to 8\, 2024\nDIVERSE PORPHYRY SYSTEMS This six-day field trip
focuses on the diverse porphyry systems in the prolific Late Triassic Que
snel Terrane (Quesnellia) of southern British Columbia. It introduces part
icipants to various types of porphyry deposits\, styles of mineralization
and alteration through field exercises and background lectures. In particu
lar\, participants evaluate alteration types associated with both alkalic
Cu-Au and calc alkalic Cu-Mo porphyry systems. Evening lectures provide in
sight and context for the porphyry deposits\, as well as an excellent oppo
rtunity for discussion and socializing.  \n\nABOUT THE REGION The course
takes place at Highland Valley Copper near Kamloops and Copper Mountain d
istrict\, near the town of Princeton.  These deposits include examples of
  calc alkalic Cu-Mo and alkalic Cu-Au porphyry deposits\, respectively\, w
hich represent an important part of British Columbia’s mineral endowment
.  Participants also learn about the regional geology to provide context
for the Late Triassic arc environment\, whence the deposits formed.  The
region is well-exposed\; open pits\, roadcuts\, and surrounding outcrops p
rovide a fantastic natural laboratory.   CLICK FOR ROUTE MAP\n\nPRACTIC
AL MAPPING TECHNIQUES Course exercises provide an introduction to the prac
tical techniques for porphyry deposit mapping\, including their alteration
\, lithology\, mineralization and associated structures. The exercises emp
hasize field techniques and methodologies\, as well as alteration characte
rization as it applies to porphyry exploration. Participants are exposed t
o the Anaconda Mapping Method for bench mapping exercises\, and core-loggi
ng. Drill core data also provides opportunity to examine application of li
thogeochemical and SWIR data for mapping and exploration.   \n\nPartici
pants in this course will be a mix of industry and MDRU graduate students
and researchers. All participants should be comfortable in open pits and o
n uneven terrain\, and have appropriate boots and clothing. \n\n&nbsp\;\n
